If you are not familiar with traditional face jugs, this collection might be a bit of a shocker. However, there is a long history. Often called Ugly Pots, they were made mostly in the Carolinas. Some people say the jugs were caricatures of drunkenness, others say they were made to frighten children and keep them away from the whisky; sometimes they were used as grave markers, and sometimes they were made by slave potters as the final pot of the day. Original face jugs are scarce and highly collectible Folk Art treasures. I make face jugs just for fun. Enjoy them or turn away, as you wish.
